Future Business Enhancements at Boys Financial Services
You might be wondering what my plans are for my business succession; a very valid concern considering my age. Recently, an Elite Manulife agent: Roland Schatz from Calgary, recently approached me about doing joint work. A happy co-incidence, as I’ve been actively looking for a younger advisor to work with me, to enable me, at some time in the future, to transition my business to that person over a time period of several years. At this point I have no intention of retiring anytime soon, but as we all know life happens and one needs to be prepared.
Today much of my business comes by way of referrals from families, farm or small business clients, so developing a team approach to handle the growing work load makes great sense. We will be working with this very qualified advisor to help streamline and speed up processing our growing work load. We also work on a referral basis with CAs from MNP based out of Red Deer, who come out to our office every Thursday. Additionally, we work with two senior tax and estate planners with Manulife Financial, Dereka Thibault and Todd Sysak based in Calgary. Who both bring very in-depth analysis skills to the table for our clients, Dereka works from a tax perspective and Todd from a life insurance perspective.
Ours is an educational process, working as partners with families, farm and small business clients, to help solve a wide range of financial risk scenarios; from the sale or succession of their business, to retirement and estate planning issues. We wither work with our client’s existing tax, legal and accounting people, or provide referrals to the firms we work with. We would be happy to come out to your home, farm or small business for a visit and a discussion around any issues that you might have, or meet with you in our offices in Stettler or Calgary.
My primary reason in wanting to develop this team approach is I’m 68years old; and while still healthy and wanting to go to work every day, I also want to ensure that there’s business continuity for my valued clients and staff members, in case I’m forced to exit due to ill health. Roland has spent over twenty years dealing with professionals and business owners and almost twelve years in financial services. He has worked with clients ranging from individuals and business owners to some of the largest fortune 500 companies in North America. Prior to him joining Oaktree Wealth Strategies; Roland spent almost a decade in sales and management with a large private equity firm based in Calgary. In addition to being the top performer in Canada since 2006, he managed sales teams in three provinces and relationships representing over $500 Million in investments with his firm. His focus was on understanding ad delivering against the needs of high net worth clients and their trusted advisors. He is passionate about finding efficient and innovative ways to help clients in managing risk and preserving wealth.
